Dementia Interpreter Training
Last month a few of our staff had the pleasure of undertaking Dementia Interpreter Training with the lovely team from Training2Care.
Here are some of the comments I received after asking them how they found it…
““The course was very informative and I enjoyed the interactive side of it. Being involved in putting on the equipment and experiencing things from a service users perspective was valuable. I remember and learn better by doing, rather than just listening. I really enjoyed it!
The Dementia Dictionary app will be very a useful resource when there is something we are not entirely sure about””
““The course was fantastic. Gave you real insight into how someone living with dementia might experience things, and how scared and isolated they can feel. Best course I have ever done!””
““I think this is a great way to learn about dementia as it had good practical aspects. The course is very useful and teaches that not everything is “black and white”. How a behaviour looks to us may mean something else to someone living with dementia, and this behaviour is their way of communicating it. It has highlighted many ways of non-verbal communication.
I think the dementia dictionary will be of great benefit to staff and anyone else who knows someone with dementia. It’s a place where we can look at behaviours and brainstorm to help understand.” ”
Our new Training and Recruitment Coordinator, Pamela, has undertaken the Train the Trainer Course, and in the very near future we’ll be rolling this training out to the rest of our staff team. We are so impressed with the response from this training so far, it will become part of our mandatory training for all staff going forward.
Our long term goal is to offer this training to family and friends of people living with dementia in our local community.
