Dementia Information Group

Last week we held our first Dementia Information Group for the family members of our service users that are living with Dementia. It was wonderful to have everyone together to chat about some of the challenges they face and look at what support is available.

As this was our first meeting there was no set agenda, the purpose was to get to know each other and find out what everyone’s expectations were for the meetings going forward. It was agreed that the meetings would be kept informal as everyone just really enjoyed being able to speak to each other and share experiences.

After seeing some of the equipment used in our Dementia Interpreter Training, several people have decided to undertake the full training session to give them better understanding of their loved ones challenges and improve their own skills in supporting them to live well with Dementia. This will be organised for our next session and anyone who wants to get involved is very welcome.

Connie was able to get some free samples of “Jelly Drops” for everyone to try. These are award wining sweets which contain 95% water and can be used to support hydration for people who who struggle to maintain a good fluid intake. Some samples were also taken away for our service users to try.

Our Training & Recruitment Coordinator, Pamela, put an information pack together for everyone to look through and take home for further reading. The pack is available to download HERE

Overall, the group was a great success and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for the next get-together. If you want to get involved you can contact Connie on 01506 826644 or email connie.stevenson@dalriadahomecareltd.co.uk
